So, as you know, the 365 project has finished - March 27th was my last and final photo - the 365th day. It was quite a year, and I'm so excited to have this blog as an archive for my life from March 28th 2009- March 27th, 2010.
Thank you all for following me on this journey!
I plan to keep the blog up, and use to continue to post photos of and around NYC whenever I get a chance!

I must say, I'm happy this 365 project is over, because I have no doubts I would not be able to keep it up while working a full time job.
I've been so busy this past week! NO time for anything!
I've been trying to snap some pretty pictures here and there of the blooming flowers around NYC, so I hope to get those uploaded and shared sometime soon!

My dad is selling his "toy" car.
He wanted to use my photography skills to make pretty pictures for his ad.
So, we parked the car by the lake behind his house - and got some decent shots - despite the 50mph wind and rain.

Day 363 - In Bulk

A trip to Oklahoma wouldn't be complete without a trip to Sam's - the "in bulk" version of a store I hate - Walmart. Ugh!
Oh well. We were there picking up a chocolate cake with whipped cream icing for my mom's birthday - and that turned out to be fantastic!

Bradford Pear trees are beautiful when they bloom - they also smell weird.
Apparently, in Oklahoma, they are a bit of a problem - they're everywhere!

Day 361 - Wide Open Spaces

One obvious difference of OKC from NYC is all the wide open space - everywhere you turn.
It can be a nice change from the tight squeeze of Manhattan.

Day 360 - NYC in OKC

The day I flew into Oklahoma City was exhausting - to say the least!
I was running on 3 light hours of sleep, and stayed busy up until midnight.
I know it's lame, but I nearly forgot to take a picture (which happened most days on this trip to OK), so I snapped this with my iphone while I watched David Letterman with my Nana in her living room.
It was strange to watch "home" on tv while I was away, but nice to see a familiar skyline!

Day 359 - Goodbye NYC

I had to visit the airport a day early to try to sort out a typo I had made when booking my ticket. Traveling there allowed me to grab this shot, an appropriate "good bye" shot, watching cars drive away on the BQE. Thankfully, it all worked out with my ticket, despite the ridiculous typo I made (on my OWN name!) and I made it to Oklahoma - where the remaining 6 shots of the 365 project were taken. More on that later...

Day 358 - On the Rocks

While having lunch in Union Square Park, a few of us were surprised, and happily entertained by the University of Oregon's acapella group On the Rocks. There were apparently on tour, and wanted to earn some extra dollars by singing a few songs for everyone in the park. We were all enjoying the show, when a grouchy park officer came over and put an end to it; I booed his decision, but did not change his mind. Oh well, it was good while it lasted! And I wish them much luck!

Day 357 - From Higher Up

I was at an art opening at the Roger Smith hotel, on the 16th floor, and decided to step out onto the terrace to see what I could see.
A different view of Lexington Avenue below, and the Chrysler building just south.
It was a very narrow terrace, with a high concrete wall, so I really had to stand on my toes to see much, but it was a great night, anyway!

Day 356 - Coffee

I ran into the filming of a starbucks commercial near Madison Square Park. Coffee cups were being filled with different colored coffee, and placed on the ground in the shape of a tree. I'm guessing it will be an aerial shot commercial, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Day 355 - Green Day

St. Patrick's Day is a big day in New York City, and it seems that the color green is the only thing that can be seen. The 4-hour long parade runs along 5th Ave. This photograph, of a "green" family walking along the sidewalk was taken just north of 59th street and 5th, while watching the parade (actually it was more like watching the people).

Catching Up

I'm leaving tomorrow (Monday, the 22nd) to visit Oklahoma for 8 days. I still have a few more days left of the 365 project, so the remainder of the photographs from Monday on will be taken in Oklahoma, rather than NYC. Since I'm not sure how much time I'll have devoted to posting, I'm going to catch up with my posts from this week (March 16th-21st) by setting them to auto-post throughout the week while I'm gone. I will finish up the rest (March 22nd-27th) when I return to New York on the 31st. I wanted to give you something to see while I'm away, and remind you that I have not forgotten to finish up the last few days! :) April 1st, I'll be posting the poll for the final month's photo, and April 8th, will be the vote for the YEAR'S best photo! (Get excited!)

This "UN Globe" sits right outside the visitor's entrance of the United Nations on 46th and 1st. I couldn't find much information regarding the structure itself; only finding pictures of it labeled: UN Globe. I really just liked the reflection of the city's high rises.

Day 349 - The New Museum

I went to the New Museum to view the exhibit "Skin Fruit" curated by Jeff Koons and featuring works from the collection of Athens-based collector Dakis Joannou. I found some of the pieces to be interesting; however, I was a bit disappointed with the exhibit as a whole. Anyway, if you're interested to read more, here is the link to the NYT review; which I found to mostly agree with after seeing the show!

The Halloween Adventure store on 11th and Broadway and its Alice in Wonderland themed window. What an amazing movie, by the way, I saw it yesterday afternoon with 3 of my friends, and we were all thrilled (as expected) by Tim Burton's latest masterpiece.

View of the lobby of "Atrium East" - a Murray Hill rental property - from the 5th floor. Most apartments feature unique duplex layouts. I've always loved the lobby. Definitely not your cookie cutter rental building!

Day 344 - The Armory Show

"The Armory Show is America's leading fine art fair devoted to the most important art of the 20th and 21st centuries. In its eleven years, the fair has become an international institution. Every March, artists, galleries, collectors, critics and curators from all over the world make New York their destination during Armory Arts Week" - (found here)
I attended the Armory show, and I feel just so lucky to have been able to attend one of the most important art fairs in the world!
It was a spectacular day - albeit tiring - as the show was spread out over two piers (94 & 92) and continued with Volta, which was located at 7W34th street.
I saw plenty of wonderful art from the world's finest gallery (and may have even spotted a celebrity or two!) and finished off the night in Williamsburg at a special exhibition at Like the Spice. The after party also took place in BK at the Hope Lounge - but by that time I was comfy on my couch!

Since moving to Midtown East, I don't spot the ESB everyday on my way in/out.
When I used to live on the west side, I used to see it every morning as I left my apartment - since there were no other tall buildings obstructing my view of it.
So, now I think I appreciate seeing it a bit more, like this time, walking to an appointment on 38th street.

Day 339 - Честита Баба Марта!

Well, that means, literally translated: Happy Grandma March.
I guess there's not translation for the "holiday", but it's basically the Bulgarian's way of welcoming spring. There's a lot of history to the celebration, going all the way back to pagan tradition, but I won't really get into the whole thing (because frankly, I don't care too much!).
I'll direct you to this post I found, if you'd like to read more.
Otherwise, all you have to know is:
-It's March 1st, and we're hoping spring will come sooner rather than later
-The colors of the celebration are red and white (that is why I so artistically arranged white objects on a red table to photograph)
and, I guess that's about it

Day 337 - Oblivious

Sometimes I'm surprised that I've never actually witnessed a pedestrian being struck by a car in NYC. Tonight was a close call - and I'm glad some people were paying attention; otherwise the scene could've been ugly.
See the woman in the green boots?
She was TOTALLY oblivious that she was crossing on a RED light, and that TWO vehicles were HONKING at her to move out of the way!
The yellow taxi honked to no avail, but ended up swerving around her, and the motorcycle (moving along at a fairly high speed, I might add) was literally inches from hitting her. At this point she finally realized she was seconds away from being hit, and quickly darted towards the sidewalk.
Well, that was a close one!

Day 336 - 21

that's the apparent # of inches of snow NYC was hit with over the past 2 days.
Although 21" sounds like a lot, I didn't really think it was too bad here in Manhattan. Sure, there was lots of slush (wear boots!) and piles of snow along the side of the road, but by the time I was up and ready for the day (10am), most of the snow (on my street at least) had already been cleared from the sidewalks and streets, leaving an ugly brown mess where the beautiful white blanket was just hours before. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Manhattan itself stays pretty cleared out. I can't say the same for anywhere else ( I know both Westchester and NJ got hit pretty hard ). I for one enjoy the snow, and I was really excited to get out and walk around in it. I immediately called a friend after I learned he had a "snow day" from work, and we spent the better part of the afternoon traipsing around the W. Village, Noho, Soho and the LES enjoying the snow fall (and relatively warm weather considering ) and taking lots of pictures.
I like this photo because you can actually see the snow falling, and of course, because there's a yellow cab in it ( I have this game I play when I'm taking photos, try to get as many photos as possible with a cab somewhere in the shot ). It was a fun day, for me at least, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ready for spring and constant sunny weather!

Day 335 - The Upside

All week Katie and I had plans to meet this evening at NYC's newest apple store on 68th and Broadway. We hadn't seen each other in over a week, and we thought we'd catch up and use the opportunity to snap some photos of apple's sleek design.
We were to meet in the store at 6:15.
It was snowing/rainy/slushing, etc all day, but we kept our plans, "daring" to brave the ankle deep water puddles. As I'm standing in the median in the middle of Broadway, facing the store, I decided to pull out my camera and snap some shots of the front of the store. I was digging for my camera, when a car drove by and splashed freezing cold water all over my boots and jeans. I actually didn't even mind, because it was at that moment that I realized I left my camera at home. On the coffee table. Exactly where I placed it last night after I uploaded my pictures. CRAP! This is my life lately, a prime example of Murphy's Law - most anything that can go wrong has.
On the UPSIDE, I have an iphone, which has a decent camera that I liked to play around with de temps en temps (from time to time, my favorite French phrase I've just learned last night, which makes me unexpectedly happy I was able to use it just now!). So, instead of staying of getting pissy because I left my camera at home, and had cold slush covering my bottom half, I decided to grin, bear it, and decide it only appropriate to take photos of the apple store with an apple product.
Plus, it was great seeing Katie, even though I've not been my cheerful self lately, I hope she enjoyed seeing me too! :)
I digress... onto the picture (this blog is becoming less of a photo blog, and more of me ranting- sorry)
This is just a photo of the UPSIDE (get it! two meanings, one post, WIN!) of the store. This apple store has a clean, neat design, like most, AND REALLY HIGH CEILINGS. Like, I've not seen a store in NYC with ceilings this high. And they have mirrors on them (re: picture) so its nice to look up. Katie said the ceilings were so high that it made her lonely. Lol, but seriously, they were pretty damn high!
(the only thing I was thinking about while in the store (2 levels) is how much their rent must be.. phhew!)

Day 334 - Favorite Thing

Today was a day of major suckage. And it just got worse.

Now, when I try to put my situation in perspective, I know it is not that bad, but if things don't turn around VERY soon, it will be. So, I'm hoping tomorrow brings good news that will put a smile on my face.

Honestly, I was so fed up with New York today; I remember myself a year ago, missing the city so bad, and counting down the days until my return.

Well, now I'm back, and either my point of view has changed, or things aren't going exactly my way, no matter which one is correct, I have a grudge against Manhattan.

Its excess disgusts me, store windows filled with crap, crap that will only be thrown away when the new set of crap is put up (just one example of excess that bothered me today)

people everywhere, most of them grouchy (myself included) and generally upset looking (whether that be the case or not)

noise, I've given up on peace and quiet

and, don't even get me started on how expensive it is to live in this place. I know, I know, I chose it, so I'm left to deal with it, and usually I do, but not today, today I am complaining, today I am stressed, and today I am angry.

Anyway,

the title of this post is favorite thing, because somewhere in the midst of my shit storm of negativity, I had to find something I really like.

Most all of the subway stations have a mosaic of some sort, from elaborate designs to simple numbers. I remember when I first moved here I loved to discover new mosaics, and I quickly decided which ones were my favorites.

The above is an example, not sure if it's my #1 favorite, but it definitely ranks in the top 2 or 3.

It can be found at the entrance of the Spring Street Uptown C,E station.

I love it, it makes me happy,

it's colorful, it's delightful, and it captures a part of NYC so well.

And today, I thought I'd like to share it with you.

It's titled: New York Subway Station

(it is the southbound platform of the 4,5,6 trains at the Union Square station)

completed in 1994 by the artist Edith Kramer. It took Edith one year to hand make the mosaic. And I would say her efforts were definitely worth it, since the piece has been displayed and enjoyed for 16 years as a part of the MTA's Creative Stations program.

I think I'm past the point in this blog when I forget if I'm being redundant. Have I already posted a photo of MSG and titled it "the Garden"? I cannot remember, and I cannot be bothered to check.
I do know; however, that I have not posted a picture of MSG with this advertisement on the side: Cirque Du Soleil's newest show "Banana Shpeel" to which I got free tickets for March 19th! (which incidentally is not actually at MSG, but another venue uptown, the Beacon Theater)

Day 330 - The Bird

I went for a walk today along the foot path between the FDR and the East River. It's so peaceful (even though there are cars rushing by on the highway!) and relaxing. I watched the seagulls, the dogs playing in the dog run, and sat on a bench and read a book for as long as I could stand the cold wind.... I really need to take advantage of the path, and start running along it. Someday. :)

Day 329 - Weird Reflection

I caught myself looking up this afternoon; the sky was so blue, and the white clouds so fluffy, I'm glad I remembered to look up. Of course, when looking up in the heart of the concrete jungle, you'll certainly notice the "trees" as well. Some buildings are tall, with walls of glass, capturing the reflection of the sky or other nearby buildings. There was a particularly beautiful scene: a tall glass tower, reflecting the blue sky and fluffy clouds like a mirror, unfortunately by the time I stopped staring and got out my camera, the clouds had passed and it didn't look nearly as neat as it had moments before. So, I settled on this photo, in which the building's reflection distorts the building across the street. It looked funny, and imaginary, so it shall be the photo of the day

Day 327 - Eating In

Since the new year, we have seriously been making an effort to eat in more.
I do enjoy it. Although some days I just don't feel like *making* dinner, it is always worth it in the end. And I'm still not the best cook I know I can be, but I have ventured out and tried some new recipes, which surprisingly, turn out tasty and easy! We have probably saved plenty of money eating in, and it's also nice to have control over what you're putting into your body.
I woke up at 6:45 this evening, after a much needed nap, and opted for an easy to make pizza for dinner- using trader joe's 99cents garlic and herb pizza dough and tomato paste/minced garlic for a base, and then added whatever vegetables I had on hand for toppings (tonight happened to be, onions, tomatoes, and spinach). Popped in the oven for 10 minutes or so, and we were ready to enjoy a delicious home made pizza! YUM!!

Day 326 - Radio City

I walked home tonight from seeing a play on 46th and 6th Ave. I experienced the same feeling I had this past Sunday when walking home from the theater on Valentine's Day- so incredibly lucky, lucky to live in a city where I can easily and comfortably walk home from most places, lucky to breathe fresh air, and lucky to see places everyday that most people only dream about.
I enjoyed my walk home- and it almost ended too quickly.
I snapped this photo of the famous Radio City, since I can't recall if I've ever posted in on this blog before.

Day 325 - Street Art on Wooster

Yesterday, a friend and I spent the afternoon in Soho, having all sorts of fun.
We spotted this excellent building on Wooster just south of Grand, a very small cobble-stoned block with not much sign of life. Isn't this building fantastic? It's so colorful and eccentric!
Right before we turned onto Wooster, we were walking on Grand Street, and I spotted Kelly Cutrone entering a lofted rental building with 2 young fashionistas. Day 324 - Love

I'm not big on the commercialized holiday of St. Valentine's Day. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about love and whatnot, but the holiday just isn't something I get into much anymore.
Nonetheless, this Valentine's Day turned out to be wonderful.
Grocery shopping in the morning, and the only reason it was great was because the usually packed store was nearly empty and we were able to roam about freely gathering our groceries, the afternoon brought the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge, starring Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson, something I'd been excited about for 2 months, and it definitely lived up to my everyone expectation. In the evening I cooked a huge dinner (which is so rare for us), baked salmon with lemon and herbs, baked potatoes, and a healthy spinach salad packed with vegetables and topped with soy ginger dressing. For dessert we stopped by the Bake Shop for red velvet cupcakes and banana pudding.
I realized I must sound like a super boring person, but really, it was a great day.

One of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown is a hidden secret for most. Tucked away on a small side street, the restaurant itself is even in a basement, and you'd probably miss it altogether if you didn't know to look for it.
Man, oh man, is it good though. Authentic Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine. And the best part, two people can eat a generous dinner for under $20.
Saturday the restaurant was lively, busy, and decorated in preparation for the upcoming Chinese New Year. We are now in the year of the tiger.

The only complaint I have about going out at night is waiting on the train to take you home.
Especially when you go to visit friends who live in Astoria, Queens, since the train's platform is above ground, making the wait that much longer because of the cold.
2 "out of service" trains passed by before the third one finally came to take me home, sweet home.

As you can see, yesterday's "blizzard" didn't quite mean the devastation the media predicted.
Today was sunny, which melted the snow into muddy slush, but nonetheless it was beautiful coming down yesterday.

Day 320 - Banana Shpeel

It's no secret that if you're patient and willing to wait in long lines, NYC offers some great freebies.
But I usually miss out,
until today.
I found out through a friend, that Cirque du Soliel had a new show opening and they would be giving out 2 FREE tickets to the first 100 people who showed up.
Since there was a "blizzard" I wasn't too busy and was going to be able to get there early, so I was just sure I would "win".
Well, as usual, I left a little later than planned, and by the time I go there, the line were definitely more than 100 people ahead of me... oh well.
They were going to start letting people into the theater in 30 minutes for an open house event, and I thought I'd just go ahead and wait for that since I was already there.
And then,
when they finally started letting people in,
they decided to give away more tickets!
I had no idea what was going on, people were pushing, shoving, acting crazy, and yelling! But I just stood in my place and happily collected my TWO FREE tickets to a preview show on March 19th! I CANNOT WAIT!
and for once, my waiting paid off!
By the way, the new show is called "Banana Shpeel" (in case you didnt get that already)
and this photo is of people taking pictures of stars of the show as they walked the red carpet into the theater, I just love the vintage taxi they pulled up in!

Day 316 - Random Moments

NYC is full of random moments.
Thursday night I went to Chelsea to view some gallery openings with a meet up group I belong to
As we were walking to the last gallery on a quiet Chelsea street, as far West as Manhattan goes, someone came up to us explaining that he loved NY and he is from Japan and he has an exhibit in NY on Saturday, inviting us to come. I asked him if he had a flier or card, or something with his opening's information, so I could attend if it fit my schedule.
I took the post card, and went on my way.
Fast forward to Saturday,
I had no plans Saturday night, and decided to stop by the opening, say hi, and see his art.
I went, brought D and another friend along,
the artist remembered me
was so happy I actually showed up
which made me smile that NYC is so random at times.
Then, as I was about to leave, he handed me a small drawing, signed it, and told me to keep it in case he becomes famous one day.
Again, I smiled.

I knew it was there, but I'd never been, and for the first time I walked on the foot path along the FDR and East River. It was beautiful, even though the clouds were grey.
It was quiet, calm, and secluded.
I live so close, and I plan to go back to enjoy more tranquil moments.

Day 313 - Paper Trail

I used to be a pack rat,
and then I married a man who moved to a new country with only a small-sized duffel bag.
I quickly learned how to live with less.
And for the most part, it has made my life far less complicated and cluttered than it might be otherwise.
But sometimes, I find my old pack rat habits creeping up.
And this is one example:
I love to collect magazines.
I subscribe to TONY (time out new york), which publishes a weekly magazine of all things NYC, it's great. Need a new restaurant? Place to shop? Movie review? Anything NYC TONY has it. So, over the past few months, I've ended up with quite a few magazines, and I never want to through them out! What if I suddenly remember something I previously read about (hey, it's happened before) and I need to refer back? So, I've dedicated one shelf (only one) for my magazines, and D is not supposed to touch them (although I have had to rescue some of my magazines from the recycling bin in our apt - he tries to by sneaky sometimes). But, I guess collecting a few magazines isn't the worst thing ever.

I've begun an exciting journey, that will (hopefully) have an impact on the rest of my life.
I've finally gotten serious about learning a new language, and found myself (well, actually a friend found him for me!) a French tutor.
So I'm hoping, soon enough, that my answer to Parlez-vous français? will be enthusiastically answered: "Oui, je parle français!"
(this is a photo of a card my wonderful mère sent me, long before I committed to French lessons, maybe she was remembering that time we went to Paris together?)

Day 311 - Manhattan Curve

Sometimes, while in its midst, it is easy to forget that Manhattan is an island, with curvy angles and not straight lines.
I've recently started showing a property on the edge of Manhattan's east side, from which the "Manhattan curve" becomes very apparent. This photo was taken on a foot bridge at East 25th street, over the FDR. This photo shows the island growing: gaining a few blocks at East 23rd and continuing to "grow" east down into the Financial District.

The Chrysler building, just peeking through the surrounding buildings, all lit up caught my eye while walking north along second avenue. Something about its lights back-dropped by the purple sky looked so magical to me, so I had to capture the scene.

Day 308 - A Favorite

It's no secret that the Queensboro Bridge is my favorite bridge in all of Manhattan. I professed my love for it here, displayed a close-up here, shot it while on it, riding into Manhattan, and photographed from it, leaving the city.
And now, I have another shot, from a different angle, to add to my repertoire of photos. This time, a full shot of the bridge, seen from a complex on 25th Street and the East River. This shot also shows the UN to the left, and new high rises of Long Island City on the right.
And don't let the picture fool you, although the sun was brightly shining, the temperate was a mere 15degrees!

On Broadway, just south of 14th Street you can find Max Brenner's Chocolate by the Bald Man restaurant/store/etc.
I've never actually been there myself, but a friend of mine (and lots of other people) say they have amazing hot chocolate,and chocolate pizza!
If nothing else, at least the name is clever!
Maybe one day I'll make it there - preferably while it's still cold outside!

Shadows on my wall, created by the flowers that I bought from Bed, Bath and Beyond and hung on above the couch. Even though the wall is white and so are the flowers, it still creates a nice contrast which is pleasant for the eyes.

Well, I guess the sunset isn't crooked, but the picture is.

Taken from a penthouse apartment which is overpriced with a monthly rent of $4300, and the only good thing about the unit is the amazing private roof deck re: photo.
Anyway, I always say there is an apartment for every person and a person for every apartment, so it will get rented eventually.

Monday wasn't boring or uneventful at all.
I cleaned the whole apartment, and won my battle with the dust,
I went to Chinatown for a late lunch with D, shopped at Trader Joe's, and had a French lesson/hangout dinner at home with Charlotte.
In the midst of all that though, I didn't manage to get a picture of anything interesting.
So I took a picture of a coaster I have, which I find interesting. I won this coaster set as well as a set of Warhol appetizer plates, in a blog contest last year.
I love this quote, and I truly think this "future" has arrived.

Day 303 - The Genius of Burton

I would say that I love Tim Burton, and I think he's a genius, and amazing, but who wouldn't say that? So I won't.
The MoMA has a Tim Burton exhibit right now, and I tried to go one Friday night a few weeks ago, and failed, because tickets were sold out. It was disappointing, but I didn't get too down about it, I just went inside anyway, and looked at my favorite Van Gogh, Christina's World, the Bauhaus exhibit, and many other things that I'm lucky I can go see anytime I want.
So, my friend Charlotte (who gets free entrance to many museums and can usually get me in for free too! WIN!) wanted to see the exhibit as well, so we decided to wake up early on Sunday morning and get in line first to secure our tickets. It was a success, and at 10:30am, we were the first people in the exhibit (although not alone, since we were followed by a crowd of what seemed like 1000). The exhibit features a short-film series, many drawings, and paintings, and even some things used in movies such as Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mars Attacks, and Sleepy Hollow. It was amazing!
The whole thing made me appreciate Burton's genius even more.
I wasn't allowed to take photos (although I did snap a few with my iphone), but this photo was taken on the ground floor of the MoMA, not in the exhibit, so photos were ok.
Maybe I'll get around to posting my other pictures soon.

Day 302 - Prodigy?

This is the second time I've seen this little kid playing the piano beautifully on the N,R,W platform at 59th and Lexington. His father is always standing nearby, humming the tune of whichever song is being played, urging the boy on.
Sometimes I am offended when people use their children's talents to make money for themselves, but after thinking about it, I realized that it is probably good for the boy to get some practice in, as well as overcome his fears of playing in front of others. And who knows, maybe the money being made is saved for his college fund, I can only hope!

The first time I passed by this store window, I thought, "how creepy are those mannequins", and the second time, I just had to take a picture.
This is the store window of Philip Williams, a famous vintage poster shop in NYC, located on Chambers street in the trendy neighborhood of TriBeCa.
I guess if you're looking to buy or sell a vintage poster, I've found the place for you!

Day 300 - Nice View

There is a new rental building in Midtown West, which just opened its doors last week.
I went with D and a friend to preview the building - which turned out to be a waste of time. The apartments are nice, but overpriced, considering the location is not ideal (at least in my opinion). I will wait to market it until they become more sensible and reduce the prices.
Anyway, some of the units boast amazing views of the city and/or the Hudson.
This apartment was one of my favorites, with triple exposure (seen here, East and South).
I wouldn't mind seeing this out of my window on a daily basis!

Day 299 - oops

I almost panicked last Thursday when I realized I had not taken a picture on the previous day, Wednesday the 20th. I looked through the pictures on my camera and confirmed my fears, not seeing any picture from that day.
oh.my.god, I thought.
I've finished nearly 10 months of this project, and now its all wasted because I forgot one stupid day.
I've been so distracted/pre-occupied lately, but HOW could I do this?
I know, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but still, I had made a commitment to take at least one photo a day for an entire year, and I blew it!
But then, I remembered, I had been at the bookstore on the 20th, and had seen a quote I liked on the first page of the book I was reading.
I wanted to remember it, so I quickly snapped a photo of the page using my iphone.
Now, as you can see, the quality sucks, it's blurry and the words can hardly be made out, but it is a picture nonetheless, taken on Wednesday, the 20th. I was saved, just barely, but saved, still.
So, here you have it, the long, boring story about the lame, horrible picture that is Day 299.
Oops!
It was almost tragic.

I've been so preoccupied and distracted lately, I haven't made time AT ALL to blog, twitter, facebook, etc.

And we can all use a little change, no?
I'm not ashamed to admit that I did not once leave my apartment today.
I planned on it, but after I got the message that it was really.really cold out, I decided my couch was just as good a place as any for me to be.
The only problem with not leaving the apartment is that it becomes much more difficult for me to get an interesting shot.
But, tonight I had an idea, and a macro lens setting.
I grabbed my jar of change, got some light, and voila! I have a picture,
and I think it's quite interesting (considering), so that counts for something in my book.
I'm a little sad the last couple of months of my 365 project are taking place in the cold, winter months, when I don't want to get out much and say hello to the world.
I promise, though, I will try my hardest to keep things fun around here for the remainder of the time (soo close!).

2 of my friends and I decided to go to a billiard lounge and have a few games of pool.
It was pretty hilarious to watch 3 women (2 of which, myself included, are definitely amateurs in the game) play a game, I think it took us an hour to complete just one game! We had a good time, and by the end, felt a little more confident in our, um, skills?.

I passed by this clock shop yesterday, and today passed by it again, and decided to take a picture. One thing I love about NYC is you always run into unique shops everywhere you go. I'd never noticed this second story clock repair store on Lexington Ave and 62nd street until yesterday, but by the looks of it, it's been there for quite some time!

it was something like 15 degrees (or at least felt that cold), and I barely left my apartment at all, this is the most interesting picture I came up with today.
My quiet New York moment (I usually try to pick the least crowded streets to walk on, when moving around the city, Park being one of my choice walking streets, it's big, quiet, and NEVER crowded) on the intersection of 63rd and Park.
Few people were walking, only a few yellow taxis passed me by.

Day 280 - Reflections on the Water

Jan. 1st, a new year, a new opportunity.
I took the new day to discover a part of the city I had never before visited : the Westernmost part of TriBeCa, and Rockefeller park. There was plenty of open space, and its location, right on the edge of the Hudson, made it feel endless. I was able to see the statue of liberty from the water's edge (on the left side of the picture), and take in lung fulls of fresh, cold air.
